In my opinion, West Side Story it's a great musical-film similar to Romeo and Juliet, but I dislike this film because I found it's bored and I don't apreciate this type of film. It's so much prolonged but in the other hand there are a great part in this film.
Similarities between WWS and Romeo and Juliet :
We can see , the scene of the ball, the balcony scene in the two film, in addition the fight with dead between Jets and Sharks in WWS and Montagues and Capulets in R and J are similar scenes. In one other scene, the two main characters get married in reality in R a J and on false in WSS.
But one of the most similar scene is the last, when Romeo or Tony are dead and that the two clan or gang understand that fighting is bad for all. But in Romeo and Juliet there is a Prince whereas he is Policeman in West Side Storie who dislikes Puerto Rican. Besides Maria is not dead in WWS while Juliet commit suicide.
In R and J there are two feuding families (Capulets and Montagues) as in WWS (Jets and Sharks) who are two feuding neighborhood gangs. Indeed WWS is a modern adaptation of R and J
