West Side Story by Benjamin Tabard

West Side Story and Romeo & Juliet

"This is a great movie but a little old fashioned... It explains the rivalry between two gangs and the fraternity in one gang."

It is an adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet but West Side Story takes place in a recent time, the 60'.
It's a tragic love musical, because Tony, a member of the Jets, fall in an impossible love with Maria, the sister of the rival boss.
Indeed, the Jets picked fights with the Sharks for keeping their territory and the Jets and rival's bosses die... It's the same in romeo and Juliet.
The beginning fight is broken up by Krupke and Schrank, just as Prince Escalus breaks up the
Montague's and Capulet's fight.

I do not like very much because the scene was not realistic, too much artificial. During the fight, it seems like a dance. According to me, they sing too much, that annoys me. Sometimes, the songs came out of the blue.
