West Side Story a review by Julie Jonfal

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shaspeare and West Side Story is a musial story adaptation.
In my opinion, I donnot like this film because there are many song and there are rivalry between two youth gang since they donnot have the same country: the Jets are American and the sharks are Puertorican.
During the story, the gangs always fight
But the end is sad because there is not an happy ending and three people died during this film.
I think this film is great for people who loves the story about Romeo and Juliet and musical story.
The story is wonderful too because we can see teenagers in America and how they live.


There are similarities between Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story for example there is rivalty between two gangs and two characters of different gang fall in love but in Romeo and Juliet, the both die whereas in West Side Story, only Tony die.
In Romeo and Juliet, we see their parents while in West Side Story we donnot see them.

The lovers meet in a party such as in West Side Story.
In Romeo and Juliet, the story takes place in Italy whereas West Side Story takes place in New York.

Romeo drinks a poison while Tony is assassinated by Chino.
Juliet is promise to Paris since Maria is promises to Chino.

Romeo and Juliet meet during the night in a verger as Maria and Tony.
At the end, the gangs make peace after a person death.

In Romeo and Juliet we donnot know why they fight whereas in West Side Story they fight for a territory and they havenot the same origin.

In Romeo and Juliet, the Friar helps them but in West Side Story a barman call Dock.

In Romeo and Juliet, Friar John cannot give a message to Romeo because he must be in a quarantined house for go to Mantua while Anita cannot give a message to Tony since the Jets catch her and finally she doesnot want to tell the message.

Marcutio is a bestfriend of Romeo while Riff is a bestfriend of Tony and when their friends died they killed the murders in addition they cannot achieve their dream to be marry with their lovers.

Eventually, the end is the same in both story: many people dead, they make peace and the lovers cannot be together.
