Viola is not such a well-born lady according to her, however her father is extremely wealthy. Indeed she complains about men at court who are interested in her fortune only.
To her mind, love on stage looks / seems artificial and ridiculous because female parts are played by young men and boys since women are not allowed on stage.
She would like to become an actress but she knows she cannot.
She likes poetry especially Shakespeare's sonnets. She wants adventure and love true love, That is to say eternal love, love at first sight, tenderness love that strikes like lightning.
Lord Wessex wants to marry Viola for her money / fortune because he needs cash to pay the mortgage on his plantations in Virginia, a new colony in North America named after Elizabeth I. The Nurse who is very down on earth protects her against her dreaminess.
The main to pic seems to be impossible love, between Shakespeare and Viola as well as Romeo and Juliet.
One subplot is how to create a play in Shakespearean Times = The playwright has to find inspiration. He had to satisfy the Queen who liked comedies.
Henslowe, the owner of the Rose, deals with the financial side of Theatre playing as well as with finding actors. the costums are made by a seamstress ( at the Curtain the Seamstress is Rosaline ).
Another problem was the closure of theatre houses due to the Plague; the opening of the houses was decided by the master of Revels in charge of the Queen's entertainment.
Shakespeare burns the first version of the first scene of Romeo and Rosaline because Rosaline was unfaithful has cheated on / betrayed him.
At the pub, he meets Christopher Marlowe, also called kit, his main competitor, another playwright, who was very famous at the time before he was killed...
The new synopsis according to Marlowe is Romeo and Juliet's synopsis. Romeo, a young man from Viola is always in and out of love until he meets Ethel, the daughter of his enemy.
She runs away because she fears that she will be recognised when she takes her hat off. Moreover she is really impressed to meet Master Shakespeare in person.
Her parents want to leave for the country ( side ) after the dance. So Viola plans to join Shakespeare's group of actors ( at the Rose ) rehearsing Romeo and Juliet.
That night, there is a dance at Viola's mansion organised by her father in order to marry Viola to Lord Wessex.
Shakespeare does not give his own name, but instead, gives Christopher Marlowe's to Lord Wessex who is threatening him with a knife. Indeed, kit might be killed by Lord Wessex's henchmen.
Shakespeare climbs on the wall and the balcony. He is seen by Viola's nurse who screams at the top of her voice. This surprises Shakespeare who falls backwards on to a bush.

Venezia an orginal city !
Venezia is situated in Italy at the seaside Adriatique. In Venezia, there are more canals than streets. Indeed, Italians walk around the street with Gondolas. There are almost not cars. Streets are so narrow that people can't take their cars, they must take their boat.
Moreover, Venezia is the best-known city for its carnaval. At this time, Italians disguise themselves and take a huge ride in the city. It is wonderful to see it, that is why visitors come to Venezia in order to take beautiful pictures of this carnaval. There are plenty of colours during several days.
Of course, Venezia (as all city in Italy) is famous for its food. They can eat pasta, pizza and so on. Beside, if they decide to eat outside the restaurant they have chosen, pigeons may steal some of their bread.
The "Basilic Di San Marco" is very popular in Italy, because Italians are really regilious, they are Christians, that's why it is important for them to have a huge place to pray. In addition, this Basilic is on the "Piazza San Marco", which is very famous in the world. This is a long and large place where Italians sell some specialities of Venezia like masks for the carnaval or fans.

If you go in France, you MUST see Lyon.
It's a wonderfull city in the middle of France, where the Saône and the Rhone meet. It is the second largest city in France.
This city is beautiful whether it is at day or at night. If you vistist Lyon by night, particularly at the 8st December ( the light ), there is a magical atmophere that you can't forget.
The Bellecour Place, in the 7st dictrict, is the largest place in Europe. Inthe middle of this place there is a statue from Louis XIV. There is the Saône and the Rhone on both sides of Bellecour Place.
In the Lyon center, exists a Middle Age city, where the street is still in pavement, and the houses are in stones.
But if you prefer shopping than walk all day and visit museums, Lyon is the right place too.
Some long street are there such as Rue de la République, Rue Victor Hugo and Avenue Fosh.
In the 3rd District, there is La Part Dieu, an fantastic shopping center whith more than 70 shops where you can buy clothes, jewels, electronics things and sometimes you can find souvenirs.

I choose Lyon because I think it is the city that I know the best.
Lyon is located in France, in the East of France. This city has 472 330 inhabitants. Lyon is cossed by two rivers the "Saone" and "Rhone". It's a famous city with a lot of famous monuments, places, museums and so on. Consequently Lyon it is a very touristic city. In Lyon you can to visit "Bellecour place" with lots of shop and during summer there is a big wheel where you can see all over the city. You can to visit several commercial centers. There is "la part-dieu" a big commercial center with next to there is the oxygen tower and there is "carré de soi" a other commercial center. In my opinion in Lyon there lots of transport so it is easy to move all over the city.

"Shakespeare in love" groupe 2 ( by Sona)
Viola is not such a well-born lady but her father is extremely wealthy, so she can go to court.
She enjoys listening to poetry especially Shakespeare's sonnets because she knows them by heart.
She dreams of adventure and true love, love at first sight, a love that strikes like lightning, that would change her whole life.
She would like to become an actress, however she knows she cannot since (= puisque) women could not/ were not allowed to play on stage, that is why, later on, she transforms herself into Thomas Kent.
As for her/ to her mind/ according to Viola, stage love seems/ looks ridiculous and is not a good representation of true love because of the law which forbids women to play female parts in public houses.
Wessex wants to marry Viola for her dowry that is to say (= c'est à dire) her father's fortune/ wealth. He wants a fertile wife and he wants to know if/whether she is obedient (= obéissante).
The father thinks she is stubborn (= têtue) but he should not care for (= car) she comes with rubies in her bags.
To our mind, the main topic seems to be impossible love between Shakespeare and Viola as well as Romeo and Juliet.
Another theme is the creation of a play in Shakespearian times.
The playwright had to have inspiration. In the film he finds inspiration in women until he meets Viola.

The Jets vs the Sharks (by Sona )
The scene is set in a street and the Jets meet the Sharks:
-What are you doing in our street ? Lousy chicken!
-Your street, are you kidding ? It's ours !!
-We were here first, stinking filth !
-Shut your trap/mouth !!
-Do you want to fight ? Let's have a rumble.
-Whatever you want ! Anyway we are stronger than you, so we are going to win.
-You wish ! What about weapons ?
-What do you prefer, fists, knives or guns ?
-If you are so strong, let's have a fist fight !
-Where ?
-We chose the weapon, you choose the place.
-Under the Brooklyn Bridge.
-At what time ?
-Midnight of course and the losers lose their territory, the winner takes it all.
-We'll be there. Beware !

CAPULET
Welcome, gentlemen! ladies that have their toesUnplagued with corns will have a bout with you.Ah ha, my mistresses! which of you allWill now deny to dance? she that makes dainty,She, I'll swear, hath corns; am I come near ye now?Welcome, gentlemen! I have seen the dayThat I have worn a visor and could tellA whispering tale in a fair lady's ear,Such as would please: 'tis gone, 'tis gone, 'tis gone:You are welcome, gentlemen! come, musicians, play.A hall, a hall! give room! and foot it, girls.
Music plays, and they dance.
More light, you knaves; and turn the tables up,And quench the fire, the room is grown too hot.Ah, sirrah, this unlook'd-for sport comes well.Nay, sit, nay, sit, good cousin Capulet; For you and I are past our dancing days:How long is't now since last yourself and IWere in a mask?
Second Capulet
By'r lady, thirty years.
CAPULET
What, man! 'tis not so much, 'tis not so much:'Tis since the nuptials of Lucentio,Come pentecost as quickly as it will,Some five and twenty years; and then we mask'd.
Second Capulet
'Tis more, 'tis more, his son is elder, sir;His son is thirty.
CAPULET
Will you tell me that? His son was but a ward two years ago.
ROMEO
[To a Servingman] What lady is that, which dothenrich the handOf yonder knight?
Servant
I know not, sir.
ROMEO
O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of nightLike a rich jewel in an Ethiope's ear;Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows,As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows. The measure done, I'll watch her place of stand,And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand.Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.
TYBALT
This, by his voice, should be a Montague.Fetch me my rapier, boy. What dares the slaveCome hither, cover'd with an antic face,To fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honour of my kin,To strike him dead, I hold it not a sin.
CAPULET
Why, how now, kinsman! wherefore storm you so?
TYBALT
Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe,A villain that is hither come in spite,To scorn at our solemnity this night.
CAPULET
Young Romeo is it?
TYBALT
'Tis he, that villain Romeo.
CAPULET
Content thee, gentle coz, let him alone; He bears him like a portly gentleman; And, to say truth, Verona brags of himTo be a virtuous and well-govern'd youth:I would not for the wealth of all the townHere in my house do him disparagement:Therefore be patient, take no note of him:It is my will, the which if thou respect,Show a fair presence and put off these frowns,And ill-beseeming semblance for a feast.
TYBALT
It fits, when such a villain is a guest:I'll not endure him.
CAPULET
He shall be endured:What, goodman boy! I say, he shall: go to;Am I the master here, or you? go to.You'll not endure him! God shall mend my soul! You'll make a mutiny among my guests! You will set cock-a-hoop! you'll be the man!
TYBALT
Why, uncle, 'tis a shame.
CAPULET
Go to, go to;You are a saucy boy: is't so, indeed? This trick may chance to scathe you, I know what:You must contrary me! marry, 'tis time.Well said, my hearts! You are a princox; go:Be quiet, or--More light, more light! For shame!I'll make you quiet. What, cheerly, my hearts!
TYBALT
Patience perforce with wilful choler meetingMakes my flesh tremble in their different greeting.I will withdraw: but this intrusion shallNow seeming sweet convert to bitter gall.

ROMEO
[To JULIET] If I profane with my unworthiest handThis holy shrine, the gentle fine is this:My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready standTo smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.JULIET
Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,Which mannerly devotion shows in this; For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.
ROMEO
Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?
JULIET
Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer.
ROMEO
O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do;They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair.
JULIET
Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake.
ROMEO
Then move not, while my prayer's effect I take. Thus from my lips, by yours, my sin is purged.
JULIET
Then have my lips the sin that they have took.
ROMEO
Sin from thy lips? O trespass sweetly urged!Give me my sin again.
JULIET
You kiss by the book.
Nurse
Madam, your mother craves a word with you.
ROMEO
What is her mother?
Nurse
Marry, bachelor,Her mother is the lady of the house,And a good lady, and a wise and virtuousI nursed her daughter, that you talk'd withal;I tell you, he that can lay hold of herShall have the chinks.
ROMEO
Is she a Capulet?O dear account! my life is my foe's debt.
BENVOLIO
Away, begone; the sport is at the best.
ROMEO
Ay, so I fear; the more is my unrest.
CAPULET
Nay, gentlemen, prepare not to be gone;We have a trifling foolish banquet towards. Is it e'en so? why, then, I thank you allI thank you, honest gentlemen; good night.More torches here! Come on then, let's to bed.Ah, sirrah, by my fay, it waxes late:I'll to my rest.
Exeunt all but JULIET and Nurse
JULIET
Come hither, nurse. What is yond gentleman?
Nurse
The son and heir of old Tiberio.
JULIET
What's he that now is going out of door?
Nurse
Marry, that, I think, be young Petrucio.
JULIET
What's he that follows there, that would not dance?
Nurse
I know not.
JULIET
Go ask his name: if he be married. My grave is like to be my wedding bed.
Nurse
His name is Romeo, and a Montague; The only son of your great enemy.
JULIET
My only love sprung from my only hate!Too early seen unknown, and known too late!Prodigious birth of love it is to me,That I must love a loathed enemy.
Nurse
What's this? what's this?
JULIET
A rhyme I learn'd even nowOf one I danced withal.
One calls within 'Juliet.'

West Side Story A Review by Sannicolo Méline
West Side Story is a musical film directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins.
Review :
It is a nice story, two lovers are fighting for their impossible love. It was a bit boring because the story is so well-known that we know what the ending will be.
This musical was too long, the begging??? was so tiring.
The scene takes place in New York City, in the West Side of Manhattan.
There are two different gangs of youths: The Jets and the Sharks. There is a gang war going on between them. Tony, a member of the Jets falls in love with Maria, Bernado's sister from the Sharks, which triggers the real fight with knifes ans guns.
It is the same story as Romeo & Juliet set in modern times. In Romeo & Juliet, there is a war between two families ( The Capulets and the Montagues ), In West Side Story there is a war between the Jets and the Sharks. At the end, Romeo & Juliet, the two main characters die because each thinks the other is dead. In West Side Story, only Tony dies. and bernardo? and Riff?

Buckingam Palace by Florian
Buckingam Palace
Buckingam Palace is the main house of the royal monarchy. It was an old manor: that of Ebury. During the 18th century, B.P was transformed into a palace. It is a much visited place during festivities/holidays. Many attend to the Changing guards. Guards are dressed in black and red and they are wearing large fur hats.
During the Changing of the guards, soldiers march on the Palace Square. It was created between 1702 and 1705. Many kings and queens have lived there but the last being Queen Elisabeth II.
So this is one of the few palaces to have political function!

Lyrics " America " of WSS by Connie.
AMERICA.
ANITA
Puerto Rico,
My heart’s devotion--
Let it sink back in the ocean.
Always the hurricanes blowing,
Always the population growing,
And the money owing.
And the sunlight streaming,
And the natives steaming.
I like the island Manhattan,
Smoke on your pipe and put that in.
GIRLS (chorus)
I like to be in America,
Okay by me in America,
Everything free in America -
BERNARDO
For a small fee in America.
ANITA
Buying on credit is so nice.
BERNARDO
One look at us and they charge twice.
ROSALIA
I’ll have my own washing machine.
JUANO
What will you have, though, to keep clean?
ANITA
Skyscrapers bloom in America.
ANOTHER GIRL
Cadillacs zoom in America.
ANOTHER GIRL
Industry boom in America.
BOYS
Twelve in a room in America.
ANITA
Lots of new housing with more space.
BERNARDO
Lots of doors slamming in our face.
ANITA
I’ll get a terrace apartment.
BERNARDO
Better get rid of your accent.
ANITA AND THREE GIRLS
Life can be bright in America.
BERNARDO
If you can fight in America.
ALL GIRLS
Life is all right in America.
ALL BOYS
If you’re all white in America.
ANITA AND CONSUELO
Here you are free and you have pride.
BERNARDO

On the one hand, the girls puerto rican , love america because they are free and have a pride. Life is perfect in america as they.
On the other hand, boys puerto rican, think that America is a country racist. For be love in America , must be white skin. Puertos ricans fight to be respected.
West Side Story a review by Bour Romain
West Side Story is a beautiful movie, a tragical musical.
It was adapted:
-in 1961 in the USA
-in 1962 in France
In the movie, there are two gangs:
-The Jet
-The Sharks
On the one hand, this movie from the sixties is a beautiful movie for its time.
This is a musical movie. The musical is active when the characters dance.
On the other hand, this movie is very long.
You should go to see it because it is a good movie and beautiful too (repetitions!!!!), but it is long.

Review about West Side Story (by Sona)
West Side story is a film dealing with 2 gangs and particularly about 2 persons whose love is impossible. I found this film very sentimental and also entertaining because of the amazing choreographies . But sometimes the love songs were too boring because the singers repeated always the same world.
Similarities between West Side story and Romeo and Juliet :
West side story is a dramatic story about an impossible love between 2 persons like the story of Romeo and Juliet. Moreover there are 2 opposite gangs that disapprove of this love and a big misunderstanding that will provoke the deaths of many.
Besides, the fight at the end in which the 2 leaders of the 2 opposite gangs die is tragic.
Differences between West side story and Romeo and Juliet :
The West side story is a musical and modern film whereas Romeo and Juliet is a theaterplay written by William Shakespeare 6 centuries ago.
In the end, when Tony ( in West side story) is killed Maria, only cries but she doesn't die whereas in Romeo and Juliet, Romeo AND Juliet both die.

West Side Story.... a review by cloé
The famous american musical who deals with two feuding gangs of Manhattan: the Jets and the Sharks. In spite of this, Tony of the Jets and Maria of the Sharks fall in love!
"West Side Story" is "Romeo and Juliet" 's new and modern story. The plot is the same. I like these love stories but I don't want that the lovers die.
I appreciate this film especially when they sing together. For instance when the Sharks and their girlsfriends tells about America. But when for example Tony sing alone his love for Maria; I find it bored!
A few sentences or characters' attitudes make me funny!
I think this movie interesting for its amazing songs and dances!
I have been surprised at the end because I have believed that Maria will die like in "Romeo and Juliet" but she just leave, desperate!
There is a tragical quiproquo/comedy of errors/misunderstanding too.
The Prince in "Romeo and Juliet" is representing by the policeman in "West Side Story", but he is not neutral, he is in favour of the Jets!

I recommand the Shakespeare's novel but if you do not want to read there is "Romeo+Juliet" by Baz Luhrmann, a modern story of "Romeo and Juliet". It takes place in USA in 20th century with a beautiful Claire Danes and a wonderful Leonardo DiCaprio. But the characters speak with the true dialogues of "Romeo and Juliet" so it is sometimes weird!
